Edge Weapon Seminar 9/17/11

A great seminar in the catagory of Edge Weapons. Below is what Hector Solis and myself covered for the class:

Part I. Warm Up:
a) 5 angles of attack
b) 5 angles with footwork: advancing and retreating
c) 5 angles on a stationary partner 360 drill
d) Angles 3,4 and a double 5 with forward pressure. Using the checkhand to grab partner on the double 5 thrust. Important that both partners understand the importance of FORWARD PRESSURE.

Part II. No Lie Blades... Empty Hands against the blade:
** Edge Weapons are dangerous...Run away from a blade, get an equalizer, or defend as follows.

a) Check and run each angle...your arms are in tight. Back of arms facing attacker. Make sure you do not push the blade hand. Rather punch and retract. Run to his/her backside. Footwork in important, important, important.

b) Check-groin slap and run EACH ANGLE.

c) Check-eye jab-run EACH ANGLE.

d) Check-eye jab OR groin slap and limb capture EACH ANGLE.

e) Check-eye jab OR groin slap, limb capture and take down EACH ANGLE.

f) Putting it all together in a random feed.

Part III FMA Flow Drill... Single Blade:
We use these drills to build great body mechanics, sensitivity and a better understanding of edge weapons.

a) Saber Grip...U-drill pass to disarm.
b) Angle 2 Back hand (ice pick grip) partner checks forearm and eye jabs and shoulder stops...disarm.
c) Downward stab (ice pick grip)...partner side steps and guides knife downward...disarm and repeat.

Part IV 6 count Flow Drill. Each partner has a blade.
a) Version 1 wipe.
b) Version 2 small quick circle evading the grab.
c) Version 3 pak sao (slap hand)to avoid the grap.

I hope this helps your recollection of the seminar. I had a great time!!!
